This mailing list is for the communication among users of NIH Image,
Scion Image, Object-Image and Image SXM. Users
are kindly asked to make their contributions in plain text (and not
in HTML). Replies to an earlier message are preferably cut back to
the necessary and appropriate lines. Posting of binary files and of
macros longer than 25 lines are to be discouraged. Personal
communication of large macros and binary files should be between the
two parties directly. Example image files could be placed on the web,
and a URL be included in messages where appropriate. Example:
http://rsb.info.nih.gov/ij/images/Tree_Rings.jpg (48K)
Subscribing
To subscribe, send the command
   subscribe nih-image yourfirstname yourlastname

in the body of an email message addressed to
   listserv@list.nih.gov.
Sending Messages
To send a message to all the people currently subscribed to the list,
just send mail to
nih-image@list.nih.gov.
This is called "sending mail to
the list", because you send mail to a single address and LISTSERV makes
copies for all the people who have subscribed. You should never
try to send any command to this address, as it would be distributed to
all the people who have subscribed. All commands should be sent to
listserv@list.nih.gov.
Leaving the List
You may leave the list at any time by sending a "UNSUBSCRIBE NIH-IMAGE" command
to
listserv@list.nih.gov.
List Archives
Contributions sent to this list are automatically archived and made available
on the Web at
http://list.nih.gov/archives/nih-image.html.
Archives from June, 1998 to November, 1999 are available as text files.
Earlier archives can be
searched using an Internet search engine. For example, go to
google.com and enter "NIH Image fluorescence confocal microscopy".
Digest Form
To receive a digested version of the postings, send a "SET NIH-IMAGE DIGEST" command
to listserv@list.nih.gov.
Privacy
Please note that it is presently possible for other people to determine
that you are signed up to the list through the use of the "REVIEW"
command, which returns the e-mail address and name of all the
subscribers. If you do not want your name to be visible, just issue a
"SET NIH-IMAGE CONCEAL" command.
More Infomation
More information on LISTSERV commands can be found in the LISTSERV
reference card, which you can retrieve by sending an "INFO REFCARD"
command to
listserv@list.nih.gov.
